20 Passengers Quarantined At Beitbridge Border

At least 20 passengers travelling into Zimbabwe from South Africa have been quarantined at Beitbridge Border Post after a Malawian national onboard a Zimbabwean bus failed coronavirus screening tests.

The passenger was onboard a Munenzva Bus destined for Harare. He boarded in Johannesburg, South Africa. The passengers itinerary shows that he intended to proceed to his native country Malawi.

19 other passengers, who are all Zimbabweans and had been on the same bus with the foreign national have also been quarantined as arrangements are made to test the whole group for coronavirus.

The official who cannot be named because they are not authorised to speak said after realising the Malawian man was ill, his colleagues had alerted an inter-departmental task team set-up by the government to deal with potential cases of this nature.

The inter-departmental team reportedly consists of people from the Ministries of Home Affairs, Health, Social Welfare and Defense.  the official added.

At least three other officials stationed at Beitbridge, including one from the country’s intelligence unit confirmed the events, while another told Khuluma Afrika that rapid tests had been arranged to prevent other passengers from being needlessly inconvenienced
