Zimbabwe’s coronavirus cases breached the 1,000 mark on Monday after 49 more people tested positive.
The ministry of health also reported a 19th death, but provided no further details about the victim’s age or sex, except that they are from Midlands province.
The dead individual had not previously been tested, and the positive test came during post-mortem after they died at home.
Of the new cases, the ministry of health said 21 were local transmissions while 28 were Zimbabwean citizens returning from South Africa.
Zimbabwe now has 1,034 cases of the respiratory illness which causes the disease, Covid-19. The ministry of health says 343 people have recovered.
The government says it is considering reintroducing a lockdown to slow down the spread of the virus, which is projected to reach its peak in September.
