Birmingham, UK — Residents and families are in shock after a hidden camera investigation allegedly exposed a Zimbabwean care worker at Willow Grove Care Home involved in disturbing acts against vulnerable elderly patients.
According to a leaked report from the local council, 38-year-old Nyasha Chikowore, who has lived in the UK for over a decade, was recorded on covert CCTV shouting at residents, withholding food, and in one instance, allegedly locking a dementia patient in a storage room for over two hours.
The footage was reportedly captured after multiple family members complained that their loved ones were becoming unusually withdrawn and fearful. “My mother would cry every time I visited,” one relative told the press. “I didn’t know why — now I do, and I’m sick to my stomach.”
Police have confirmed that an arrest has been made and investigations are ongoing. The care home has since suspended several staff members and is under emergency inspection by the Care Quality Commission.
The story has ignited outrage across social media, with calls for tougher background checks on foreign and local care workers, and harsher penalties for elder abuse.
One former coworker, speaking anonymously, said, “She was quiet, but there was something cold about her. None of us imagined it could go this far.”
The case is now being treated as a safeguarding emergency, with UK authorities warning that more victims could come forward in the coming days.
