Air Zimbabwe It's A Shame

Mutapa Investment Fund CEO Dr John Mangudya says Air Zimbabwe plans to resume the Harare–London route by June 2026, a return that would end a 14-year absence from one of its most symbolic destinations.

Dr Mangudya was speaking at a Zimpapers Public Lecture Series this Friday.

Air Zimbabwe last flew to London Gatwick in January 2012, grounding the route amid crippling debts and the risk of aircraft being impounded by creditors, after an earlier suspension in late 2011.

While the announcement signals renewed ambition under Mutapa’s oversight, restarting a long-haul European route remains fraught.

It will require reliable aircraft, regulatory clearance and firm protection from legacy debts — challenges that have derailed past revival efforts. For now, London is a promise, not yet a flight plan.
