A 39-year-old man from the Chief Neshuro area in Mwenezi reportedly died while visiting his girlfriend after falling ill at her homestead.Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and advised members of the public to prioritise medical care whenever they develop serious health problems.
“We urge members of the public to seek medical attention early whenever they experience serious symptoms and to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, especially when feeling unwell,” said Inspector Dhewa.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Kelvin Tarungirira, left his home on 3 March 2026 at about 2pm after telling relatives he was travelling to Rutenga in search of employment.
However, he did not return home and instead reportedly went to his girlfriend’s residence in Gwareva Village under Chief ChitangaOn the morning of 6 March at around 7am, Tarungirira reportedly began complaining of chest and stomach pains. Despite feeling unwell, he allegedly spent part of the day drinking marula beer with his girlfriend.The situation worsened the following day when he reportedly attempted to leave for the bus stop to travel back home but was unable to continue due to his deteriorating condition. He returned to the homestead to rest.
Later that night, at around 9pm, Tarungirira allegedly started groaning in pain before he collapsed and died at the house.
Police were later notified, and the body was transported to Neshuro District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
