The main opposition party in Zimbabwe, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has expressed dissatisfaction with the 30-year prison sentence given to Pius Mukandi, also known as Jamba, for the murder of Moreblessing Ali. The CCC compared this sentence to that of a cattle thief, which they believe is inadequate.
They demand that the government take immediate action to ensure justice is served for Ali.
Ali, a CCC activist from Chitungwiza, was kidnapped and killed in May/June 2022, with her body found in a well.
While a postmortem could not determine the cause of death, it was suggested that strangulation may have been the cause, and Ali's body was dismembered after her death.
Mukandi was arrested and confessed to the crime, leading the police to evidence such as the murder weapon and Ali's personal belongings.
