Fatal Crashes Surge Over Heroes And Defence Forces Break

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has raised alarm over a sharp increase in road traffic accidents and fatalities recorded during the 2025 Heroes and Defence Forces holidays, held from 11 to 12 August.

 

According to official statistics, total road traffic accidents rose dramatically from 149 in 2024 to 196 this year. Fatal accidents also spiked from eight to 13, while the number of people killed climbed from 16 to 24. Injuries likewise saw a worrying rise, from 77 in 2024 to 96 in 2025. Police say the main causes of the crashes included reckless driving, mechanical faults, speeding, and dangerous overtaking
