Harare Zimbabwe Sad News Amai Venyika passed away

Harare, Zimbabwe-
Veteran opposition activist Memory Kandore has passed away, dealing another blow to Zimbabwe’s opposition movement.She died on 28 December 2025, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, courage and unwavering commitment to democratic change.


Kandore was among the early supporters of opposition politics, having joined the movement at its inception in 1999.

 

 

 

She rallied behind the late Morgan Tsvangirai and later continued her activism under the leadership of Nelson Chamisa, whom she supported openly and fearlessly until her death.


Her political work was most visible in Kuwadzana West Constituency, her home area, where she tirelessly mobilised and encouraged communities to believe in change. Widowed at the young age of 26, Kandore devoted her life to activism, becoming a familiar figure at opposition rallies and events. She was known for proudly wearing Chamisa regalia and never missing a rally, driven by her hope for a new Zimbabwe.

 

 

 


Despite limited means, Kandore raised her family through a humble samosa vending business. Through this small enterprise, she not only sustained her household but also spread her political message, engaging and inspiring many within her community. She was a devout Christian and firmly believed in Nelson Chamisa’s leadership and vision for the country.She is survived by two children, Mufaro and Nyasha, and two grandchildren, Nala and Anotida. She was predeceased by her first child, Clemence, who died in a road accident along Bulawayo Road in 2019.


Paying tribute, opposition legislator Hon Johnson Matambo said, “I have lost a mother, a pillar, and a true cadre of change. Her contribution to the struggle was invaluable. We will continue with the fight for a new Zimbabwe. She is a true hero.”

Councillor Ray Jakopo added, “Memory was a shining light in our movement. Her passion and dedication inspired many. We will miss her dearly, but her legacy lives on. May her soul rest in peace.”
