Highlanders head coach Benjani Mwaruwari h

Highlanders head coach Benjani Mwaruwari has publicly expressed deep frustration with the administrative operations at the club, describing his working environment as “toxic” and suggesting internal resistance to his leadership.

The former Warriors striker's comments center on ongoing administrative hurdles, specifically the club's failure to secure a work permit for Zambian forward Isaac Lungu. According to the coach, Lungu has been in the country for more than a month but remains ineligible to play due to a lack of clearance.

Mwaruwari indicated that the delay in processing the permit is symptomatic of broader operational issues and a lack of behind-the-scenes support, which he believes is undermining his project at the Bulawayo-based club.

“I needed maximum support, but I feel like that is not happening," Mwaruwari said. "I don’t know, maybe there are individuals who are not fully behind this project. It is difficult to understand how a work permit can take more than a month."

The head coach further hinted at internal divisions, stating he is becoming aware of actions that appear to conflict with his objectives for the squad.

"I am beginning to notice certain things that seem to work against what we are trying to achieve as a team," he stated. "That is not helpful, especially when we are trying to move forward."

Mwaruwari also acknowledged the controversy surrounding his initial hiring, stating he is aware that his appointment was not universally welcomed.

Despite the administrative challenges and perceived opposition, the coach maintained that he remains committed to his role. “I know that many people did not want me here, but that will not stop me from giving my best for this club," he said. "My focus remains on improving the team and delivering results.” - Zimbo LIVE Harare
