According to ZimLive, former Information Minister Jenfan Muswere reportedly tried to fire ZBC board chairperson Helliate Rushwaya, who is President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s niece (as reported by The NewsHawks).
However, Muswere was forced to change his decision after Mnangagwa allegedly stepped in while he was in Dubai.
Reports say Muswere had already told The Herald to publish a front-page story announcing Rushwaya’s dismissal. The newspaper printed about 3,000 copies, but Muswere later ordered them to be destroyed after Mnangagwa refused to approve the firing.
Just a few days later, Muswere was removed from his job and replaced by Zhemu Soda, who is now the Minister of Information.
