Kudakwashe Murisa is leading a group of seven inters€x people in Zimbabwe who are fighting for their rights

Kudakwashe Murisa is leading a group of seven inters€x people in Zimbabwe who are fighting for their rights. The group has taken the government to court, asking for legal recognition and protection of inters€x people under the constitution.

Inters€x people are born with both male and female biological traits. They have filed a High Court application asking the state to recognise inters€x people as a separate legal category.

They also want a third s€x marker to be included on birth certificates, IDs, and passports, with clear procedures to correct existing documents.

In addition, they are asking the government to ban non-consensual surgeries on inters€x children and to ensure access to dignity, education, healthcare, and equality before the law.

Murisa explained: “As an inters€x person, I have to explain myself every time I use my identity documents because they don’t match the s€x I was given at birth.”
