A woman from Harare named Sekai Makanya, who has three husbands, took one of them, Tapera Mapfumo, to court for not helping with money and family responsibilities. She told the court that he doesn’t pay school fees for their child and becomes violent when she asks for help. She also said he insults her and even went to her workplace to embarrass her.
Ms Makanya said Mr Mapfumo agreed to be in a marriage with other husbands and should still be a responsible father. She said her other husbands shouldn’t have to take care of his child.
Mr Mapfumo denied the claims and said he does support his child. He said Ms Makanya treats him badly, insults him, and even threw his things out of the house. He believes he is the one being mistreated and is open to counselling to fix the situation.
