Newly reviewed records from Khami Prison reveal that President Emmerson Mnangagwa served a lengthy prison sentence during the liberation struggle. According to the admissions register, he was admitted into the D-Class section of the prison on 13 September 1966.
The records show that he spent several years behind bars before being transferred to Harare Remand Prison on 6 January 1972. This transfer was reportedly in preparation for his deportation.
