Police arrest 35-year-old in Murewa robbery case, two accomplices still at large

POLICE in Murewa have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with a string of robbery and unlawful entry cases, recovering stolen goods valued at approximately US$14,000 amid ongoing investigations.

Trust Vengai Tito was apprehended by CID Murewa officers, an operation authorities say has so far cleared 20 robbery cases committed between November 2025 and February this year.

Mashonaland East police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the arrest and said two suspected accomplices remain at large.

“These are some of the recovered stolen properties recovered by CID Murewa after the arrest of one of the suspects, Trust Vengai, aged 35, in Murewa. Two of his accomplices are still at large, including Bethel Matema (40). This arrest has cleared 20 cases so far, and we are still expecting other victims to come and identify their property,” said Inspector Chazovachiyi.

Police allege that the trio targeted schools, shops and residential properties during night raids, disarming security personnel and disabling surveillance systems before fleeing with valuables.

One of the victims, Farai Magobogobo, said his shop was attacked during the night.

“The robbers targeted our shop during the night. They disarmed our security guard and first took batteries before taking groceries. They disabled our camera system and vanished. The groceries had a value of US$1,000. We received a call from the police, and we have recovered some of our items,” he said.

Several residents have since positively identified and recovered their stolen property.

Tito appeared before the Murewa Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until February 24, while police continue efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
