Police found large amounts of drugs at the premises of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries in Harare. The church is led by its founder, Walter Magaya.
The drugs included different types of unregistered medicines such as metronidazole, clotrimazole, acyclovir cream, fluconazole tablets, cotrimoxazole pills, miconazole vaginal cream, CoQ10 vascular care, sodium bicarbonate injections, Stillen Aupatillin injections, and lip balm products.
One of the directors at Yadah Hotel, where the drugs were found, Donald Makuvaza, appeared before Harare Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki. He pleaded guilty to possessing unregistered and unapproved medicines.
The case was postponed to March 10 for plea recording.
Here is a simple explanation of what each drug is mostly used for:
1. Metronidazole – An antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections and some parasitic infections. It is often used for stomach, vaginal, and dental infections.
2. Clotrimazole – An antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, and vaginal yeast infections.
3. Acyclovir cream – An antiviral cream mainly used to treat cold sores and other herpes skin infections.
4. Fluconazole tablets – An antifungal medicine taken by mouth to treat fungal infections, especially vaginal yeast infections and other serious fungal infections.
5. Cotrimoxazole pills – An antibiotic used to treat different bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, chest infections, and some types of diarrhea.
6. Miconazole vaginal cream – An antifungal cream used to treat vaginal yeast infections.
7. CoQ10 vascular care – A supplement that contains Coenzyme Q10. It is mostly used to support heart health and improve blood circulation.
8. Sodium bicarbonate injections – Used in hospitals to treat conditions like severe acid buildup in the blood, certain drug overdoses, or cardiac emergencies.
9. Stillen Aupatillin injections – Usually used to treat stomach problems such as gastritis and stomach ulcers.
10. Lip balm products – Used to moisturize and protect dry or cracked lips.
