Five days ago, Sergeant Siboniso Brian Mngadi, a police officer, is accused of shooting and kiIIing his wife, Lungile Cornelia Mbatha, and injuring four other people, her mother, the maid, and his two children aged 13 and 15.
The incident happened after the wife, Mbatha, had taken out a protection order against him, and his police bosses had told him to hand in his gun. This appears to have made him very angry. Sensing danger, his wife ran away to her parents’ home in Brakpan for safety.
Sergeant Mngadi allegedly followed her there and opened fire, kiIIing his wife and wounding her mother, the maid, and the two children. Paramedics confirmed Mbatha’s death at the scene, while the other victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
