Former Rugby Star Campbell Nyakudya Charged with R..ape and Theft of Harare Top Socialite
A former Zimbabwe national rugby youth player, Campbell Nyakudya, has been released on bail after appearing in court on allegations of drugging, raping, and robbing a prominent Harare socialite.
Nyakudya was arrested on October 28.
The incident, which began at a popular nightclub, has sent shockwaves through the city.According to H-Metro, Nyakudya appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa yesterday, where he was formally charged with rape and theft.He was not asked to plead and was granted bail of US$200. The accused is a former Falcon College student and was part of the Zimbabwe U18 national rugby team.
According to court records the events unfolded on the night of October 25. The complainant was at La Parada bar with friends before the group decided to move to Karma Night Club.
The court heard that after the complainant visited the bathroom, she returned to her table to find her friends had left and Nyakudya was there with an unknown woman. She reportedly resumed drinking from her glass while looking for her companions.
The next thing she knew, she woke up naked and covered only with a cloth in the parking lot of Chisipite Shopping Centre.
Witnesses at the shopping centre told the victim that she had been dumped from a moving vehicle whose registration number they could not capture.
Upon regaining her senses, the socialite discovered she was missing her handbag, an iPhone 14 Pro Max, US$1,200 in cash, and her wig.
She immediately filed a police report. With the help of employees from Karma Night Club, she was assisted home, at which point she was experiencing pain in her private parts.
The investigation took a critical turn when the complainant and authorities reviewed CCTV footage from La Parada. The footage allegedly shows Nyakudya adding an unknown substance to her drink and later leading her to his car. He is then accused of driving her to the Chisipite Shopping Centre parking lot where she was dumped.
