The Harare Regional Magistrates' Court has convicted and sentenced a 26-year-old female former private tutor to 15 years in prison for multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault against a minor.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of Zimbabwe, in a news bulletin dated November 17, 2025, confirmed the conviction. The former tutor was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault perpetrated against her 10-year-old female pupil.
According to the report, the offences occurred on multiple occasions between August and October 2025 across two countries, in Gaborone, Botswana, and the Borrowdale suburb of Harare.
The NPA stated that the offender would call the victim, instruct her to remove her clothing, and proceed to sexually assault her. The offender also threatened the minor with violence to prevent her from disclosing the abuse.
The assaults were discovered after the victim's mother observed her daughter was having difficulty walking and inquired into the cause.
In its statement, the NPA affirmed the court's position on such crimes: "The courts maintain a zero-tolerance policy against those who violate the sanctity and safety of children, especially in a position of trust like a tutor." The authority further stated its commitment to ensuring "perpetrators face the full force of justice to deter such heinous crimes." - Zimb LIVE Harare
