ZBC presenter Tinovimbanashe Butu dies after battle with cancer
THE Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is mourning the death of one of its seasoned voices, Tinovimbanashe Butu, who passed away on Friday in Harare after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 41.
Her younger sister, Miss Rufaro Butu, confirmed her passing at a local hospital, marking the end of a distinguished broadcasting career that spanned over a decade.
Butu, affectionately known to colleagues as Tino, joined ZBC in 2009 as a sub-editor on the Radio English Desk before transferring to the then Voice of Zimbabwe in Gweru, where she worked as a producer. Her career path reflected her versatility and commitment to public service broadcasting.
She later moved to Montrose Studios in Bulawayo where she worked as a Producer under the News and Current Affairs Department. A year later, she returned to Pockets Hill Studios in Harare, serving with dedication as both sub-editor and presenter until her final days.
Beyond the newsroom, Tino was a mother, leaving behind two daughters, Anesu and Mutsa.
Mourners are gathered at Number 8 Derbyshire, Waterfalls, Harare.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
