Zimbabwe government is considering reducing passport fees

This decision followed a period of fee increases and subsequent public pressure. 

 

 

 

 

In December 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣, the government announced an increase in passport fees, which became effective on January 1️⃣, 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣. This change saw the cost of an ordinary passport rise from US?1️⃣2️⃣0️⃣ to US?2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣, and an emergency passport from US?2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ to US?3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣.

 

 

 

 

 The fee hikes led to protests, especially among Zimbabwean citizens in South Africa, who protested the high costs charged at consulates. A petition was also launched to urge the government to reconsider the decision.
