Zimbabwe is currently seeing a rise in divorce cases as more marriages break down. In 2024, there were 3,214 divorce filings across the country, compared to 2,149 in 2023.
This sharp increase has worried the judiciary, especially the High Court, which handles divorces for marriages under general law. Harare recorded the highest number, with 1,945 couples filing for divorce, followed by Bulawayo with 825 cases.
The main causes of divorce remain infidelity, poor communication and gender-based violence.
