Zimbabwe To Hold Historic Triple National Hero Burial For First Time Ever

On Wednesday, Zimbabwe will have a historic triple national hero burial for the first time ever to bury three senior government officials who died from Covid-19 last week.

According to the ruling Zanu PF party, Wednesday’s ceremony at the National Heroes Acre will be for the burial of the late Foreign Affairs Minister retired Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Busi (SB) Moyo, former Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) boss, retired Major General Paradzai Zimondi and the late Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Joel Biggie (JB) Matiza. All three men died last week from Covid-19 related complications.

The news of the first-ever triple national hero burial was confirmed by government spokesperson and Permanent Secretary for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana. Writing on social media platform Twitter, Mangwana said,

The funerals and burials of the late three National Heroes;

-Hon Lt Gen(Rtd) SB Moyo

-Maj Gen(Rtd) P. Zimondi

-Hon JB Matiza

will take place on Wednesday 27 January 2021.

Only invited relatives and those officials who attended the last double funerals are expected to attend

The triple national hero burial at the National Heroes Acre comes just six days after the double national hero burial of the late Minister of State For Manicaland Province Ellen Gwaradzimba and late nationalist and former deputy finance minister Morton Dizzy Paul Malianga. Gwaradzimba also succumbed to Covid-19.
