Zimbabwean Caregiver, 29, Arrested for Stealing Credit Cards & Jewellery From Elderly in Birmingham Care Home

BIRMINGHAM, UK – Shockwaves have hit the Zimbabwean community in the UK after 29-year-old Talynn Maphosa, originally from Harare, was arrested for allegedly stealing credit cards and expensive jewellery from elderly residents at a Birmingham care home where she worked as a caregiver.

According to sources close to the investigation, the suspected thefts took place over several months, with victims only realising when unusual bank transactions and missing heirlooms were reported by their families. Police say the stolen items included wedding rings, gold chains, and a watch worth over £2,000, alongside multiple credit cards used for online purchases.

Felistas, who had been described by colleagues as “quiet but friendly,” is now in custody pending a court appearance later this month. The care home has assured families that extra security measures have been put in place to protect residents, and the UK Care Quality Commission has launched its own review.

The case has sparked a heated online debate about trust, ethics in caregiving, and background checks for foreign workers in the UK care sector.

💬 What’s your take on this? Should all caregivers be monitored more closely, or is this an isolated incident?
