Three Zimbabwean nationals living in Oxford have been arrested in connection with an elaborate visa fraud scheme that allegedly targeted the UK Home Office. The suspects — Tatenda Moyo (34), Patricia Guchu (31), and Reason Mataranyika (39) — are accused of submitting dozens of falsified asylum and work permit applications on behalf of undocumented immigrants across the UK. Authorities say the trio operated through a fake legal consultancy firm, charging desperate clients thousands of pounds for forged documents, fake addresses, and fabricated employer references.
The arrests followed a months-long joint investigation by UK Border Force and Thames Valley Police, which began after irregularities were flagged in a batch of applications linked to the same Oxford postcode. During coordinated raids in Cowley and Headington, officers seized laptops, fraudulent passports, and nearly £70,000 in cash. The Home Office described the scheme as “a direct attack on the integrity of the UK immigration system.” The accused have been denied bail and are expected to face multiple counts of fraud, forgery, and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The Zimbabwean diaspora in Oxford has expressed shock, with many fearing increased scrutiny and delays in legitimate immigration cases.
