Fast forward to April 18, 2019, the president re-cycled the same content- awash with same liberation rhetoric, callouts and promises. With so many sentiments emerging from his speech, the president doesn’t bring any new or unique political style or usher in a new trajectory, let alone conditions for nation building or healing. MDC leader Nelson Chamisa says the Church must lead the way in initiating dialogue between him and President Emmerson Mnangagwa so as to rescue long-suffering Zimbabweans who are staring at a bleak future. However, well-placed sources in government say Mnangagwa is unlikely to be swayed by the Church which is reportedly getting its funding from foreign countries that are deemed hostile to Zimbabwe. The insiders said the nexus between Chamisa and the Church spooked Mnangagwa from attending the prayer meeting that was organised by the Ecumenical Church Leaders Forum. President Emmerson Mnangagwa proudly kicked off a Zimbabwean national dialogue process on Wednesday, amid the country’s ongoing political and economic crisis – but opposition leader Nelson Chamisa was among those staying away. Mnangagwa said the dialogue launch marked the fulfillment of a pledge made at his inauguration to advance the cause of unity, and engage Chamisa and other presidential candidates in consultations. The State owned Herald reports Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube has fired Acie Mutumanje Lumumba, as chairman of the Communications Taskforce in the ministry, three days after his appointment. A source who refused to named and quoted confirmed the development. Lumumba’s appointment was criticised by Zanu-PF members and Information Deputy Minister Energy Mutodi who said Lumumba’s appointment undermined his ministry.
