Zimbabwean businessman and controversial figure Wicknell Chivayo private Bombardier jet that crashed late Friday night while flying from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to Harare.
The aircraft, a Bombardier Global Express, disappeared from radar approximately 40 minutes after takeoff, prompting a search operation by Tanzanian aviation authorities. Early Saturday morning, rescue teams confirmed that wreckage believed to be from the jet was located in a remote area of southern Tanzania near the Selous Game Reserve.
The condition of Chivayo and the other passengers remains unknown. Authorities have yet to release an official passenger list or confirm whether Chivayo was among the victims. However, sources close to the businessman say he had been in Tanzania this week for what was described as a "high-level investment meeting" with regional energy officials.
