Kofi Offeh, a Ghanaian man who identified himself as “King Atehene,” has been deported from the United Kingdom after authorities found he had overstayed his visa.
His removal follows months of public attention after he and two others occupied land in Jedburgh, a case that drew coverage from outlets including BBC and Sky News.
Offeh, 36, was part of a small group that settled in a forest area, claiming they were reclaiming land taken from their ancestors centuries ago.
The group included his wife, Jean Gasho, who referred to herself as “Queen Nandi,” and a third member, Kaura Taylor.
Authorities initially issued an eviction notice in August 2025 after confirming the group was occupying private land.
They later moved to a nearby site owned by the Scottish Borders Council, but enforcement action continued.
Local councillor Scott Hamilton welcomed their eventual removal, describing it as the result of a coordinated effort by the council, police, and other agencies.
“It has been a long effort by the local council, police and other services to achieve this outcome,” he said at the time.
Following the eviction, officials confirmed that Offeh had breached immigration rules by overstaying in the UK, leading to his deportation.
